Why computer repair costs vary

Parts: Standard components often cost less than proprietary, premium or hard-to-find replacements. Labor: Disassembly and testing differ by device; motherboard and USB-C port work can require microsoldering. Condition: Liquid damage or multiple failures may require additional work. Data: Backups, migration and recovery are separate scopes from replacing hardware.

We also explain when the cost of repairing an older computer approaches the price of replacing it.

Frequently asked repair cost questions

Is computer repair diagnosis really free at AME Computers?

Yes. AME Computers offers free in-shop diagnostics so you can understand the problem and get an estimate before authorizing a repair.

Why does laptop screen replacement cost vary?

The price depends on the exact laptop model, panel type, replacement-part availability and labor. Touch and high-resolution displays may cost substantially more than common non-touch screens.

Are parts and labor included in these ranges?

Where a range refers to a typical completed repair, it is an estimated parts-and-labor total for common situations. Advanced parts, unusual complexity, software licenses, additional services and applicable taxes may change the total. Custom builds are marked labor-only.

What if my computer is not worth repairing?

AME Computers evaluates the age, condition, likely reliability after repair and the cost of replacement. We explain when repair makes sense and when replacement is the better investment.

Can I bring in a gaming PC, Mac or game console?

AME Computers works on gaming PCs, many Mac models and selected console electronics repairs. Some failures need model-specific parts or specialized board work, so an individual diagnosis is important.

How much does data recovery cost if a hard drive is failing?

Cost depends on whether the drive is readable and the type of failure. If a hard drive clicks, grinds or repeatedly disconnects, stop using it and bring it in before repeated attempts make recovery more difficult.

Do I pay before the repair starts?

For standard repairs, AME Computers provides a quote before work begins, with no money down. You pay after the approved repair is completed.
