AME service policy

100% free diagnostic. No money up front for standard repairs.

AME Computers does not charge an upfront diagnostic fee or collect repair payment before standard repair work is approved and completed.

The exception

Custom computer builds

Custom builds may require money up front for parts and build costs before the project begins.

What happens after drop-off?

What happens when you leave your computer with AME?

A clear seven-step workflow keeps you informed from intake through pickup.

  1. 1

    Check In

We collect your contact information, device details, symptoms, and anything else that may help us understand the problem.

  2. 2

    Discuss the Possible Repair

We talk through what the computer is doing and the likely repair paths. The diagnostic is free, and no standard repair payment is collected up front.

  3. 3

    Receive Your Intake Ticket

You leave with an intake ticket containing AME contact information and a website link so you can keep track of your repair.

  4. 4

    Diagnosis & Communication

We diagnose the problem and keep you updated. Communication is generally by text unless phone or email is preferred or otherwise agreed upon.

  5. 5

    Approval & Repair

We explain what we found and discuss the proposed repair. For standard repairs, money is still not collected up front. Custom computer builds are the exception.

  6. 6

    Repair Complete

When the work is complete, you receive a notification on your phone. Additional text updates may also be sent as the repair moves through completion.

  7. 7

    Pickup & Warranty

You pick up the computer and complete payment. AME labor carries a 30-day warranty. New parts generally carry a one-year warranty, subject to the applicable part or manufacturer terms.

*Custom computer builds may require upfront payment for parts and build costs. Standard repair diagnostics remain free.

Pricing red flags

Be cautious when money is required before a normal diagnosis

For ordinary computer repair, an upfront payment just to diagnose the problem is a reason to ask questions. AME's diagnostic is 100% free, and we do not collect money up front for standard repair work.

  • Ask what the upfront charge covers.
  • Ask whether you will receive a clear repair recommendation before work begins.
  • Be wary of pressure to approve expensive work you do not understand.
  • Custom computer builds are different because parts must be purchased before the build begins.

  • Occasionally a text message does not make it to our desk, and a phone call is the fastest way to make sure we see it.

Popular help topics

Common computer problems and the right next step

These quick guides are meant to help you decide whether a simple check, remote help, or hands-on repair makes the most sense.

Computer will not start

Confirm power, check the power adapter or surge protector, and disconnect unnecessary accessories. If there are lights, fans, beeps, or repeated restart attempts, note those symptoms. Persistent no-power problems may need computer repair or board-level diagnosis.

Computer is unusually slow

A slow system can come from storage failure, low memory, background software, updates, malware, heat, or an aging drive. Avoid random "cleaner" utilities from pop-up ads. We can diagnose the actual bottleneck before recommending an upgrade.

Laptop will not charge

Try another known-good outlet and inspect the charger and port for obvious damage. Avoid forcing a loose connector. Charging problems can involve the adapter, battery, port, or board-level charging circuitry. See Laptop Repair Bellevue.

Pop-ups, fake alerts, or suspicious behavior

Do not call a phone number shown in a surprise security pop-up and do not grant remote access to an unknown caller. Close the browser if possible and contact a trusted local shop. See Virus Removal Bellevue.

Hard drive clicking or files disappearing

Stop using the device as much as possible. Repeated power-on attempts can make some failures worse. If the files matter, start with Data Recovery Bellevue before repair, recycling, or destruction.

Mac will not start or is acting strangely

Note recent updates, liquid exposure, battery behavior, storage warnings, or unusual heat. Avoid reinstalling macOS if important files are not backed up. See Mac Repair Bellevue.

Security & scam awareness

If something feels wrong, stop before giving anyone access

Scam pop-ups and unsolicited calls often create urgency. A legitimate repair conversation should give you time to understand what is happening and who is accessing your computer.

  • Do not call phone numbers from surprise browser security alerts.
  • Do not install remote-access software for an unsolicited caller.
  • If you already granted access and become suspicious, disconnect the computer from the internet and contact a trusted technician.
  • Change important passwords from a separate trusted device if you believe account credentials may have been exposed.
  • If files are encrypted or a ransom note appears, stop making changes and ask for help before attempting cleanup.
AME will not pressure you into a repair.

Our job is to diagnose the problem, explain what we found, and give you enough information to make a decision.

Security & Malware Help
Before you bring it in

A little preparation can make diagnosis easier

  • Back up important data if the computer is stable enough to do so safely.
  • Bring the power adapter or charger when the problem involves power, charging, battery life, or intermittent shutdowns.
  • Write down the symptoms and when they started.
  • If login access is necessary for testing, be prepared to provide the required credentials or discuss another testing arrangement.
  • For a failing drive or important lost files, avoid unnecessary restart attempts and tell us data recovery is the priority.
Not sure what to bring?

Call or text us before you leave home. We would rather answer a quick question than have you make an unnecessary second trip.
